Over Boermarke
In 1987, Boermarke was the first in the Netherlands to produce farm-made ice cream using milk from its own dairy farm. Alongside a wide range of ice cream varieties, Boermarke’s mousse made from fresh farm milk quickly became extremely popular. In the early years, Boermarke mainly supplied its products to dairy farms across the Netherlands. However, because only natural ingredients were used, other sectors soon began to show interest as well. As the market evolved rapidly, Boermarke made the strategic decision to start producing plant-based alternatives. This groundbreaking move significantly strengthened its position and gave retail success an impressive boost.

Start

Boermarke was the first in the Netherlands to produce traditional farm-made ice cream using milk from its own dairy farm. Thanks to the use of purely natural ingredients, demand quickly expanded from dairy farms to the institutional sector.

First award

With its organic ice cream Bertha 1, Boermarke won the ABN AMRO Award at the World Trade Show in Amsterdam — a prestigious export prize that opened the door to the German market. In 1996, the premises in Enschede were fully renovated and expanded.

Location Hengelo

In 1999, Boermarke acquired a promising new facility in Hengelo, as it soon became clear that the production site in Enschede had become too small due to the expansion of the product range.

Enschede & Hengelo

From 2000 onwards, all fresh product manufacturing took place in Hengelo, while Enschede remained the home base for frozen production.

New Facility in Enschede

Due to strong growth, Boermarke relocated at the end of 2008 to a brand-new facility in Enschede-West.

Abroad

From 2009 onwards, Boermarke continued to accelerate its international growth.

Plant-based

Boermarke began producing plant-based yoghurt and desserts.

Vegan & Acquisition

Plant-based production expanded significantly. In addition, in 2019 Boermarke acquired De Zuivelmakers and launched various private label (PL) ice cream and fresh dairy concepts, including for Airline catering, IKEA, McDonald’s and private label ice cream tubs.

100% plant-based

In 2023, Boermarke announced its full transition to 100% plant-based production. The dairy division will be taken over by Zuivelhoeve in the coming years.

Expansion European Retail

By 2025, Boermarke’s plant-based private label products are available in supermarkets across no fewer than 21 European countries.
